Well, no one asked, but I thought it would be good to lead off my 2022 journal with my favorite lens/camera reviewers on Youtube. Actually very diverse personalities. Enjoyable and knowledgeable.

Abbie's Ashes

Long sad story . . . the short version . . . Abbie died last week (4am Dec27) after a 36 hour vigil by Deb and I.
Not unexpected (she was 18 and under treatment for weeks), but very sad nonetheless.

Her ashes came back today and she now sits with Zeke, Sabrina, Zach, Lexie and Blue.

Some pictures below.

A Dream Car From Long Ago

jpg

"Although Nash built over 28,000 Rambler Custom Station Wagons in 1951, few survive and fewer, if any, of them are as beautifully presented and equipped as this example. Finished in Seafoam Green with wood grain body accents and grey cloth upholstery, it not only is fully equipped but also tows a reproduction Mullins camping trailer in matching livery, fitted with a duplicate of the Rambler's bumper. The trailer even has a matching 'Tartan' cooler on a rack over the tongue. Set up for family camping trips, the Rambler has a roof rack with wood batten floor, wheel covers and radial tires. It is fully restored, with beautiful paint, chrome, upholstery and wood. 'Cute' takes on an entirely new meaning when it is illustrated by this 1951 Nash Rambler Custom Station Wagon and its Mullins trailer. It is a one of a kind ensemble done thoroughly and to very high standards of fit, finish and function. "

Egg Shortage ..... Egg Shortage ???

A quick run to the supermarket today with a short list of supplies. Not an egg to be seen. Not even "eggbeaters".
"No eggs?" I ask the guy. He says they sold out of the very short shipment that came in Friday.

???

I drive to another market. They have only those eggs in clear plastic boxes - not the common foam/cardoard packages. (The clear plastic box eggs are "cage free" and "free range" eggs.)
Store guy has a wagon of boxes of eggs he is handing out to people lined against the wall with their shopping carts.

I grab 2doz of the plastic box eggs and check out.

jpg

Get home, go online, type in "egg shortage massachusetts" and, yep, I guess people in the know predicted a 2022 egg shortage. Why? ..... a 2016 Mass law prohibiting the sale of eggs from chickens kept in cages went into effect Jan.1.2022

So .... I expect the caged chicken farms are shipping their eggs to NH, Vermont, Ct and RI while us native Mass people start fighting in the aisles for cage free eggs at $10/dozen.

Save the Chickens.

In reality I agree with the no-cage / free range philosophy, and I buy no-cage eggs, but I think the free market (not the law) should determine how that works its way through the community.

Anyway, that's what I am listening to today. Very cool stuff.

The Thin Man (lovely movie)

jpg jpg

Factoid: In this first movie of the Thin Man series, the title "Thin Man" does not refer to Wm Powell. It refers to the body found buried in the basement. But the name caught on and thereafter referred to Powell.

I don't need to note that Ms Loy was fabulously beautiful in every scene.
Do I ?

Do I Need a Tibet "Singing" Bowl ?

jpg

I got one on loan from the LeoTree Museum of Kinky Tibetan Stuff !!

Primary frequency is 560Hz, which is very close to C#5 (554Hz). There are also very peaky higher tones at approx 1497Hz (almost F#6), 2175Hz (between C7 and C#7). These are not harmonics of the fundamental frequency and they are not notes on the common musical scale.

jpg

Nonetheless, it is very pleasant to hear, in real life. This recording, made with a cell phone and played back on computer speakers, doesn't do it justice.

Had an eye exam today, and part of that is making pictures of my retinas. Here's one of mine. Doc says they look okay.

Strangely my far sight vision has gotten better (!) and I only need close-up glasses.

Get Lost in Time.

Not much going on around here, so let me show off this intriguing vintage, ArtDeco motorcycle that I found on the internet.

jpg

"With its 1,200-cc, 40-brake horsepower, in-line four-cylinder engine, the 1930 Henderson Model KJ Streamline could exceed 100 mph. In an era when streamlining was used sparingly in motorcycle design, American Orley Ray Courtney's enclosed bodywork was virtually unknown on production two-wheelers (except for a few racing machines), making the KJ an unusual and beautiful example of Art Deco design."

Good movie too .....

Happy Birthday, Elaine Rose!

Elaine's 87th ! Nice party.

I promised Catherine that I would not get triggered by the ever present political comments, but I failed.
We went at it until our throats were sore and the wine ran out (had to skip my Eliquis last night).
Happily, no one brought weapons, so wounds were not life threatening.
